2018 SWDM Training & Licensing Program

 

SWDM offers its members (or those wanting to join SWDM and applying membership on or  by 31st January 2018) the unique opportunity of receiving a 70% funded SWDM Scholarship TRAINING Program aiming to achieve licensing by examination in both practical and theory components as a dance sport teacher (Associate & Gold Coach Levels) in three (3) styles of Ballroom Dancing. Those interested in the Scholarship Training need to make an appointment for an interview to discuss suitability and availability for participation in the program

Scholarship (70% Part Funded) Dance Teacher Training for our members is provided as follows:

  • Qualified Scholarship Trainees are required to maintain SWDM membership during the four (4) year Training Program to be accepted as SWDM Tainees.
  • Qualified and accepted Tainees must attend a minimum of two (2)  Teacher Training Technical sessions weekly
  • Training Schedule - Must attend Technical Training each Saturday 11am - 9pm at Condobolin Studio (commences Saturday February 10th, 2018) plus choose to attend at least two (2) of  the Afternoon/Evening Practical Training Programs held. Trainee Teachers may attend 1, 2, 3 or 4 Practical training sessions weekly to suit their needs and time available to study. Practical Training starts February 5th, 2018.
  • Those qualified and accepted SWDM Scholar Trainee Teachers can start from 5th February 2018. Please be aware there are limited vacancies and as soon as Scholar positions are completed the TRAINING will cease to be available for new recruits. First in, will be those most likely to receive this Scholar TRAINING.
  • All qualified trainee teachers will be required to complete SWDM membership application prior to commencing training.
  • All qualified Scholar trainee teachers will be given FREE text books as required. The year 1 books cost approximately $280 (Scholars receive text books free) and will be needed by February 5th 2018
  • All qualified trainee teachers will be required to undergo examination each four (4) months, Stage 1 examination is Practical only (Simple), Stage 2 is both Practical & Theory (simple), Stage 3 is both Practical & Theory  (a little bit more complicated than previous exams, but not so hard to achieve as past results have produced 95% + pass rate for those sitting the examination). Similar situation in Year 2 Stages 4-6
  • Discounted Examination Fees apply to each stage of examination, Stage 1 - 5 is $60 per exam and Stage 6 Associate Degree Exam is $199, remembering that these prices are already allowing for the 50% discounts applied to Member Scholars.
  • Stage 6 Associate Degree Exam in Year 2 is the first dance teacher degree allowing the trainee teacher to teach Bronze - Silver level Medal Students (Beginners - Intermediate level dancers). Those passing the Stage 6 Associate Degree will then have opportunity to continue as a SWDM Scholar through to Stage 12 Gold Coach Degree.
  • An SWDM Associate Degree License Certificate is issued to all those passing Stage 1-6 examinations in 2018-9.
    Overall Pass Marks range from "PASS"; COMMENDED PASS"; "HIGHLY COMMENDED PASS" and "HONORS PASS"
  • An SWDM Gold Coach Degree License Certificate is issued to all those passing Stage 7-12 examinations in 2020-21.
    Overall Pass Marks range from "PASS"; COMMENDED PASS"; "HIGHLY COMMENDED PASS" and "HONORS PASS
  • Results from 2000 - 2016 show 16% passed, 26% Commended Pass, 52% and 6% achieved a Highly Commended Pass,
  • Follow on 2018 Teacher Training will allow those qualified for Scholar TRAINING in 2018 - 21 to continue with their Scholarship  TRAINING in 2019 - 21as long as trainee maintains SWDM membership (Annual Fees paid up) and passing earlier Stage Exams.

    plus choose to attend at least two (2) of  the Afternoon/Evening Training Programs held as follows:

SWDM Licensing Examiners

SWDM Appoints an examiner from its list of
approved licensing examiners.

There is no guarantee to have the same
examiner at each Stage of examination.

All SWDM Examiners are at the peak of
the profession of dance and are very
experienced at the mission at hand.

No personal communication is allowed
with an examiner outside of examination
procedures during the exam.

Examiners decisions may be challenged only by an examinee, and only if presented in writing by the examinee; and where full details are given within 30days of an exam result being awarded. SWDM Board will then examine the written claim and a written decision including all facts at hand will be given to the complainant within 30days of receiving the said complaint.

 

TEACHER DEGREE LEVELS

SWDM Dance Teacher Certificate & Degree Levels include:

  • Student Teacher Certificate - Not a Teaching Degree,  just a recognition of passing Stage 1 - 5 of Associate Degree
  • Associate Degree - Stage 6 First Teacher Degree where holder is permitted to teach Begginner to Intermediate Group Class Students, Bronze & Silver Private and Group Class Student Levels only. This is a two (2) year course with examinations required. Holders of this degree can participate as Trainee Local Adjudicators
  • Gold Coach Degree - 2nd Teacher Degree where holder is permitted to teach Begginner to Advanced Group Class Students, Bronze, Silver  and Gold Medal Private and Group Class Student Levels only. This is a two (2) year course with examinations required in Stages 7 - 12. Those passing are allowed to participate as Local Adjudicators.
  • Licentiate Degree - 3rd Teacher Degree where holder is permitted to teach Begginner to Advanced Group Class Students, Bronze, Silver, Gold Medal and above Private and Group Class Student Levels only. This is a one (1) year course with examinations required at Stage 13 - 15.

  • Those passing Licentiate Degree are allowed to participate the Adjudicators Licensing Course.
    This Adjudicators Licensing Course is a one 1) year course with examinations required at Stages 16 -18. Those passing are allowed to participate as a National Adjudicator, depending upon background and experiences of each individual.

  • Fellowship Degree - 4th Teacher Degree where holder is permitted to teach any level of Group Class Students, Any level of Private and Group Class Student Levels.. This is a two (2) year course with examinations required. Those passing are allowed to participate as an International Adjudicator. This is a two (2) year course with examinations required. Those passing are allowed to participate as International/National Adjudicators. SWDM selects its Medal Examiners and Teacher Degree Examiners from those suitably experienced at this Fellowship Degree level.

 

Opportunities for SWDM Licensed Dance Teachers

SWDM has trained and licensed 1000's of teachers since its inception. SWDM teachers are currently working in these locations around the world that we are aware of:

Australia, Brunei,  Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Italy,  Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Philippines,  Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA.

Those holding a minimum of SWDM Associate Degree are used as teachers in some SWDM training programs, with appropriate payment.

Those holding a minimum of SWDM Gold Coach Degree can be promoted to work abroad as dance teachers with appropriate payment.

Those holding minimum of Licentiate Degree can be recommended for Adjudicating abroad in some smaller competitions with appropriate payment..

Fellowship Degree holders are recommended to adjudicate in International Championships with appropriate payment including accommodation and possibly airfares re-imbursed, depends on experience and recognition in the profession

SWDM Appointed Examiners have opportunity to travel to our member countries to examine Medalist Students and Adult Dance Teacher Degree applicants with appropriate payment and all expenses covered.
